2012 was a very good year for The Vacation Gals and 2013 is already looking to be pretty fantastic, too. If there’s something else that I enjoy besides travel, it’s health and fitness. Why? Because if you don’t feel your best, you can’t enjoy life. And yet staying at a healthy weight is no easy task – especially if you’re traveling. Because my weight has always been like my former flight attendant job – up-down-up-down – I knew I could use some insight and from experts. And so I applied for my year-long dream job. And I got it! I’ve been name the 2013 Shape Magazine Weight Loss Diarist.
I’ve been a Shape Magazine reader for as long as I can remember and this column has been a favorite with readers, including me, for years. Scoring left-behind copies on the plane was like finding gold. Every issue the Weight Loss Diary was the first thing I read. Following the ladies’ experiences was enlightening (I’m not alone) and inspiring (I can do it, too!).
Now I hope to do the same for the readers by penning the monthly column for the print issue of Shape Magazine (look for this copy above for my first column) and blogging once or twice weekly for the Shape.com website. I am also tweeting from @ShapeWLDiary.
I am currently working with a trainer and registered dietitian at my gym Life Time Fitness and I have a much-needed life coach who will be helping me with any internal and daily struggles I may encounter. You will meet them in the Shape columns. And, yes, while I have a team for support, I’m still juggling family, writing assignments, blogging and life in general, oh, and I have to do the work to reach my goals. That means making healthy choices and finding time to go to the gym (my goal is five days a week), and ensuring my best efforts when I travel (that’s the scary part for me). However, I feel optimistic about this year and I can’t wait to share with readers what I learn in Shape Magazine’s Weight Loss Diary because we all need to learn and support each other.

Congrats Beth, sounds like the perfect gig for you! I used to read Shape religiously, good stuff. By the way, I highly recommend Jillian Michael videos (30 day Shred is where I started) for a good 20 minute workout in your living room, or hotel room, when you don’t have time for the gym. And yes, 20 minutes counts in excercise-landia.
Thanks, Heather! And thanks for the Jillian tip. She’s 100% inspirational.
How freaking exciting is that?! Good for you, Beth! I look forward to reading your column!
Thanks, Colleen! xo
Congrats and good luck! That’s so exciting!
Thanks, Kestrel! I’m so excited!
Congratulations Beth! Well deserved and all the best in the new career. What a great opportunity.
Thank you, Deb! Hope to see you again in 2013.
Hi Beth, wow, it sounds so cool, congratulations!!!
Thank you, Jan! I’m looking forward to giving it my best.
I agree: “Because if you don’t feel your best, you can’t enjoy life. “
