No secret, the Vacation Gals love Hawaii. The islands are like no other state in the US, and are diverse enough even among themselves that a vacation is, say, Oahu feels completely different than one in Kauai. Even if you’ve never been able to travel to Hawaii, you can prepare some authentic-tasting Hawaiian meals with recipes from the Aloha Spice Company and the Hawaii Farmers Market. This giveaway’s prize is two cookbooks: The Aloha Spice Company Cookbook (which comes with 4 different spice rubs) and the Hawaii Farmers Market Cookbook, brought to you by the Hawaii Farm Bureau.
Sure, anyone who travels to Hawaii will find chain restaurants on any on the main vacation islands. But the farms upland on each island, from the Big Island to Kauai, provide much of the authentic, fresh, local, and often organic ingredients for the best restaurants in Hawaii. The Hawaii Farm Bureau is a nonprofit organization that supports small family-run farms and Hawaii’s agricultural industry. The Hawaii Farmers Market Cookbook: Fresh Island Products from A to Z lays out insider tips and special recipes from the Hawaiian farmers themselves. Featuring recipes for pork tenderloin with sweet onion marmalade, purple sweet potato poke, pineapple ginger chicken stir fry, Kona Coffee creme brulee, and more, there are over 100 original recipes here. Most have that distinctly Polynesian-influenced island flair.
The Aloha Spice Company Cookbook features organic, gourmet seasonings and rubs. The mini cookbook comes prewrapped with four small jars of spices: Luau BBQ Seasoning & Rub, Seafood Seasoning & Rub, Chicken & Pork Seasoning & Rub, and Prime Steak Seasoning & Rub.
Both cookbooks in this giveaway are prewrapped and hermetically sealed. Bring the flavors of Hawaii into your kitchen with these cookbooks! To enter this giveaway, please leave a comment below describing your favorite aspect of a vacation in Hawaii. If you only dream of traveling to Hawaii, simply describe what you imagine your favorite part of a trip there would be.
Immediate family members of The Vacation Gals shouldn’t enter. US residents only, please (for shipping purposes). This contest giveaway is open until Tuesday, May 10 2011, 6:00PM PST; you may leave a comment once a day. The winner will be chosen using a random number generator. And remember: Support your local farmers markets!
Thank you to the Hawaii Farm Bureau for providing the cookbooks for this giveaway, and thank you to everyone working to support Hawaii farmers and farmland.
