Sustainable travel has long been a keen interest for those who love to see the world, but worry about tourism’s carbon footprint. The Vacation Gals like to travel lightly when possible, and we’re not the only ones who try to weave green travel into our family vacations, girlfriend getaways and such. Now a brand new group — a conglomerate of sorts — has been created to help promote ecotravel and to highlight the green aspects of brands and tourism destinations. EcoAdventure Media is this new group, composed of 13 leading travel blogs with strong ecotravel passions. Whether sustainable travel is our main niche, or green travel is interwoven and integrated throughout our main travel niches (family travel, adventure travel), we all understand and are committed to the importance of ecotravel. The EcoAdventure Media group can cover ecotravel and promote eco-conscious brands on a mass scale.
The EcoAdventure Media group is not “just” a bunch of travel bloggers; we are editors, print journalists, educators, a sustainability consultant, and more. All together, we have over 500,000 page views per month and have over 4 million social media followers! That’s a lot of eyeballs. We will offer a full range of services (this isn’t just blog posts and tweets, folks) including creating press kits that emphasize and highlight a destination’s ecotravel opportunities, writing press releases about new sustainable travel aspects of a hotel or destination, or helping to promote a nonprofit organization. Best yet, the EcoAdventure Media group can package all our combined skills together to make us a one-stop–shopping group for any place seeking to spread awareness of its positive environmental impact efforts. Traveling responsibly can be woven into almost any type of vacation, at almost any destination, after all.
You see this above photo? I took it a few years ago near Lake Quinault in Olympic National Park. It’s lived on my desktop ever since, and I click on it every time I want to relax. It works better than yoga…I think it does anyway, I never could get into yoga. In any case, this photo of the rainforest in Olympic National Park reminds me that we all have our go-to thoughts and visions to help us relax. I would wager that most of those places that we go to in our minds are natural, be they rain forests, beaches, rivers, or desert vistas. Nature — places in their wildest states — are where most people feel best. We are tied to the planet whether we think about it as such or not. Who doesn’t dream about a beach vacation getaway or a peaceful cabin in the mountains? Helping to protect and promote the world in its natural state is not just a feel-good mantra. It’s not just about protecting and helping endangered species thrive (though that is crucial as well). The health of the environment is tied to the health of our species, of human beings. It’s important to all of us at that base level.
The US National Park system is one of the United States’ greatest legacies, and protecting large swathes of land in their natural states goes a long way toward keeping our planet in reasonable shape for our children and our children’s children. I’d love for the EcoAdventure Media group to one day be able to package together a partnership with one or more of the US National Parks. We’re an international group, though; our members are based not just in the United States, but Canada, Europe and Australia as well. Of the thirteen travel blogs, a selected EcoAdventure Media group can be brought to work nearly anywhere. We don’t expect luxury travel fans to suddenly plan to stay in yurts, mind you. Inspiring travel planners to integrate easy green travel practices into whatever vacation they want to take, wherever they want to take it, is a small step. But like pennies in a jar, it all adds up.
