Today we’re pleased to help spread the word about an exciting TV show that is airing on New Years Day. The best part is, we know the show’s host from our various involvements in the travel writing and blogging world. Johnny Jet recently filmed a show called Hot Spots 2012 with Johnny Jet on the Travel Channel. It will air on January 1 at 9:00 PM EST (check local listings). We were able to snag a few minutes of his time to talk about his show…and be sure to check out who he’s chatting with in his photo.
Tell us about yourself and your upcoming show.
I founded the Johnny Jet travel newsletter in 1995 and JohnnyJet.com in 1999; I have been traveling all over the world ever since. In my upcoming show, I will be revealing the hottest travel destinations for 2012. There’s a lot of great stuff happening next year and through my show, you’ll get exclusive access and a behind the scenes look at what makes 2012 so exciting!
What did you learn from the experience?
I learned that show business is hard work! But having a cool camera crew and production company makes the long hours fun. I met some incredible people along the way and they are what made this experience truly special.
What was the most thrilling part of filming for you?
It’s all been a dream come true, especially the fact that everything was filmed on location. We traveled to five countries, not including the U.S. We were in Belize, Canada, England, Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands and New Zealand. I flew over 35,000 miles in October alone which is when most of the filming took place. For a travel junkie like me, it was incredible.
Wow! 35,000 miles is a lot! What can viewers expect from your show?
Anyone who’s wondering where to go next year will love this show. It puts the year’s hottest destinations on the map. But even people who don’t have travel plans will find the show interesting from a current affairs perspective because it explores destinations that are going to be all over the news next year. I love that this show provides a peek at these stories before anyone really covers them.
Do you have future shows planned?
Not yet! But I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’s well received and that this is just the first of many more to come. This really is my dream come true – to continue doing this would be the ultimate achievement of my goals.
Is there anything else you’d like to add…
Yes! Please watch the show! If you are traveling, then don’t forget to set your DVR to record it. And of course, thanks for your support.
Thanks and good luck, Johnny! We’ll be watching!

The Travel Channel is one of my favorite channels. I had not heard of this new show though. Thanks! I have it on my watch list now. Cheers! Shonda
