Throughout the month of May, Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa on Oahu, celebrates moms with a pampering spa package, breakfast in bed, and other treats to say “mahalo” (thank you) to all moms for, well, being awesome.
I’m not sure how many mainland moms are able to jet off to Hawaii at short notice in order to be able to enjoy some of these mom perks at Aulani in the coming weeks. BUT if you happen to be a mom reader on Oahu, I’d hightail it over to the Aulani website and book even just one overnight at Aulani as a fabulous “backyard getaway” during your special month. Otherwise, consider this information to perhaps pique your interest to book a Mother’s Day trip to Aulani in May 2017 (or frankly, any time you can get to the magical resort — I’m a fan!)
I was able to sample some of the “Mahalo Mama Month” offerings during my short stay at Aulani last week. Here’s the scoop:
Aulani’s Laniwai Spa is one of the very best spas I’ve ever experienced — and I’ve relaxed in a lot of spas in my adult life. Any body scrub, massage (rhythmic lomilomi, in particular!) or facial at Laniwai Spa would likely be divine, but for the month of May, the Mahalo Mama Spa Package ($265 + tax and gratuity) might fit the bill. This package includes a 25-minute Lomilomi Massage, 25-minute Cinderella Facial and 50-minute Yummy Mummy Organic Pedicure for the ultimate pampering experience.
Frankly, prior to arriving at Laniwai Spa, I wondered if “only” 25 minutes on the massage table might be too short (I like booking 90-minute massages when I can!). And, indeed, I would have loved my massage therapist Jason to work on my entire body, but he focused on my neck, back and shoulders for less than a half hour. Still, his magic hands were just the right mix of strong and firm, while soothing, too.
Thankfully, when it was time for my Cinderella Facial (cleansing, exfoliation, gentle mask and moisturizing treatment), I didn’t have to leave the comfort of my warm massage table! My fabulous aesthetician Susie entered the room as Jason exited, and performed my facial right there, allowing me not to lose my happy Zen state of mind after my massage. Susie had such a gentle and caring touch, I’m pretty sure I dozed off during the treatment.
I did move to the salon for part three of the lovely Mahalo Mama Spa Package, the Yummy Mummy Organic Pedicure, with foot soak, deep cleanse, nail grooming, exfoliation, massage and polish. Yumiko was so totally thorough with my pedicure, and I appreciated the care with which she polished my toes. More than a week later, and they still look great.
As with the purchase of any full-service spa treatment, mamas who book this package can enjoy complimentary access to the Kula Wai, a 5,000-square-foot outdoor garden retreat with pampering amenities, including private vitality pools, mineral baths, a reflexology path, six rain-style showers and whirlpool jet spas. You definitely want to make sure you have plenty of time to rest and relax in this hydrotherapy garden–it’s a wonderful oasis in the midst of the bustling resort.
Also for Mahalo Mama Month, the Disney resort chefs have created a special morning meal just for moms: Hawaiian-style French toast stuffed with cream cheese/whipped cream and strawberries, and smothered in strawberry compote and chocolate. Let me tell you, I typically like my French Toast standard style — with butter and syrup — but this creamy strawberry rendition was amazing!
As a special offer in May, guests receive a free 8×10 photo with the purchase of a Disney PhotoPass CD–perfect for moms’ desktop at home or at the office. With Disney PhotoPass opportunities located throughout the resort, families can capture their special memories from Aulani on camera.
There are also many ways to create one-of-a-kind keepsakes for moms. During arts and crafts at the Pau Hana Room, kids can make photo frames and other mementos moms will keep forever. And every Sunday in May in the Pau Hana Room, mothers and children can bond over creating a Lei Poʻo (Head lei) and learning the art of Hula.
For moms interested in swimming among the tropical fish in Rainbow Reef, Aulani’s private snorkel lagoon, the resort is offering a 10 percent discount (one day access or length of stay access) in May.
