Minnesota has seen its first snowfall this season which means the St. Paul Winter Carnival is right around the corner. What’s even better news is local Cannon River Winery, located in Cannon Falls south of the Twin Cities, is partnering with this annual carnival by creating a wine for the occasion called Winter Ice. Minnesotans don’t have to wait for the carnival to taste this limited edition dessert wine. This weekend the Winter Carnival Winter Ice Release Party is being held at Cannon River and will include wine bottling and tasting (Winter Ice tasting is $5) alongside “the” Winter Carnival Royalty. The event is scheduled for November 21, from 1 to 3 p.m.
While I haven’t been to Cannon River winery yet, it sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon. In addition to the Winter Ice unveiling, there are several other Cannon River Winery events coming up: Saturday November 20 is the Cheese and Chocolate Weekend (just as the name implies) and Nouveau Wine Release (light-bodied red with hits of black raspberries and cherries) and December 4 will be GoGo Red Release (a soft and fruity, sweet wine with aromas of blackberry jam and wild berries).
If you’re looking for something to do in Minnesota, in addition to these wonderful sounding events, the Cannon River Winery and Tasting Room is open year-round for visitors to sample more than 15 wines.
