I’ve long booked hotels, flights and rental cars at Expedia. But arranging things to do in a foreign destination via the website hadn’t been on my radar — until now.
I’m heading to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, for the next week, to experience and document via video a host of fun experiences all bookable through the Expedia Local Expert Concierge Desk. And in the Caribbean island of the DR, available Punta Cana-area activities range from helicopter tours and zipline adventures to jeep excursions and snorkeling cruises.
Of the more than 30 options I could choose from, I chose as many active experiences as possible — activities where I could be on the water, on the beach, or underground (!) exploring some key sights, flora and fauna, and trying some new activities.
While I’m looking forward to all of my new-to-me adventures (I’ve never been to the Dominican Republic before!), here are three that I especially anticipate:
We’ll sail around the luxurious Cap Cana coast aboard a catamaran, and then dock for a three-course lunch with plenty of lobster and adult beverages, relaxing on a white-sand beach and swimming in a freshwater lagoon.
I am beyond excited to try Zorbing — rolling downhill inside a giant flexible and cushioned plastic ball. Oh, how I expect the GoPro to get a workout here.
It’s not (my type of) a vacation without at least one local hike, and this tour includes not only trekking up the slopes of El Farallon Cliff, but also descending into a cave to explore underground chambers.
I’ve got a couple of other excursions on the agenda, and I’m hoping for some relaxed hours at my all-inclusive resort, too. I’ll report back here and on the Expedia Viewfinder blog on all I experience, but if you’d like to follow along as it happens, check out the #ExpediaThingsToDo hashtag on social media, or follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
