Three years ago Passports with Purpose raised $7,000 for Heifer International. In 2009, the travel-blogging community raised $30,000 to build a school in Cambodia. Last year, it was an incredible $65,000 for an entire village in India. This year we’re aiming to raise $80,000 to build two libraries in Zambia, Africa! And you can help, perhaps even winning some cool prizes along the way.
Passports with Purpose is the brainchild of four motivated, passionate, philanthropic Seattle bloggers — Pam Mandel, Debbie Dubrow, Beth Whitman and Michelle Duffy. Also on board with this key group of organizers is PR gal extraordinaire Meg Paynor of San Francisco. They’ve been working so hard behind the scenes to make it easy for us travel bloggers to get involved in raising money for such worthy worldwide charities as this year’s recipient: Room to Read, which partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, as well as creating local language children’s literature, constructing schools, and providing education to girls.
Here’s how it works: Check out all of the cool prizes listed on the Passports with Purpose donate page. Donate $10 and you’re given a raffle ticket (of sorts) to apply to any prize listed. There are some amazing items that you might win, and your donation is tax-deductible. If you prefer to donate to Passports with Purpose without entering to win a prize, you can certainly do that, too.
This year The Vacation Gals are sponsoring a super-cool prize: a red-hot Kindle Fire. This 7-inch, full-color, wi-fi enabled tablet holds limitless (okay, 18 million) movies, apps, games, books and TV shows — hours of entertainment to keep the whole family occupied on your travels! Browse the web, listen to songs, flip through magazines… it’s small enough to hold in one hand and slip into a purse or backpack.
We hope you’ll scoot right over to the Passports with Purpose raffle site and have fun perusing all of the prizes — then enter to win for just $10 a chance. Every little bit helps — and we’ve already got a leg up on donations toward the $80,000 goal via the amazing sponsors: Round the World With Us, TravellersPoint and Home Away. Huge kudos to these folks for supporting such a worthy cause.
Thanks for supporting this collaborative endeavor to make the world a better place through travel.
