Passports with Purpose 2012: Help Us Build Five Wells in Haiti

Four years ago the nonprofit Passports with Purpose raised $7,000 for Heifer International. In 2009, the worldwide travel-blogging community raised $30,000 to build a school in Cambodia. In 2010, it was an incredible $65,000 for an entire village in India. In 2011 we raised $90,000 to build two libraries in Zambia, Africa. This year’s exciting goal: $100,000 to support Water.org, which will fund five community wells in Haiti, providing much-needed clean water. And you can help, perhaps even winning some cool prizes along the way.

Here’s how it works: Check out all of the cool prizes listed on the Passports with Purpose donate page. Donate $10 and you’re given a raffle ticket (of sorts) to apply to any prize listed. There are some amazing items that you might win, and your donation is tax-deductible. If you prefer to donate to Passports with Purpose without entering to win a prize, you can certainly do that, too.

Since 2009, when Jen, Beth and I founded The Vacation Gals, we’ve hosted a prize for Passports with Purpose, and this year is no exception. In 2012, we are sponsoring a super-cool piece of travel gear: an Olympus Tough TG-820 iHS camera. I took this waterproof, shockproof pocket-sized camera (retail $280) on my trip to Australia in June, and found it invaluable — I shot video while ziplining, and took brilliant photos while in a helicopterr, in a kayak and even while scuba diving! Truly, it turns out great photos, and it’s virtually indestructible.

We hope you’ll scoot right over to the Passports with Purpose raffle site and have fun perusing all of the prizes — then enter to win for just $10 a chance. Every little bit helps — and we’ve already got a leg up on donations toward the $100,000 goal from major sponsors like Expedia, TripIt, and TBEX. Huge kudos to these folks for supporting such a worthy cause.

Thanks for supporting this collaborative endeavor to make the world a better place through travel.

Great gift and its great that you’re continuing to support PwP with good stuff. But ahem, it is FIVE wells–and they are Community wells–meaning each benefits many families.

That said, I’m off to bid on this great camera, and post it all over the place.

Surprisingly very few items came up when I googled pool house/hotel with pool on Korčula, most of the result, was agencies offering the same units, so the selection was between a villa 10 km from Korčula town and a hotel in Lumbarda (4 km from Korčula town), when the internet marketers saw the pictures on the hotels homepage the decision was taken

I’ve been wanting a camera that is as tough as I am and can withstand all my klutziness and hijinks (I have broken 2 digital cameras already and it is a testament to the durability of iPhones that mine is not kaput after the accidents it has endured), so I hope I win your prize.
