All three of us Vacation Gals have had the opportunity to experience a Disney Cruise. When Jen and Kara experienced the Disney Dream they took their kids to Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, and had a grand time. While they spent time on the island partaking in fun family friendly activities, I was sans kids during my cruise and had a little different experience. Today, as I sit here in the cold Minnesota weather the commercials for this tropical paradise keep popping up on TV making me wish I was on another warm Disney cruise. For the moment, the following photos will have to do. Join me…
This photo was the first glimpse I caught of Castaway Cay after waking up on the Disney Fantasy last spring. The blue Caribbean water never stops taking my breath away.
After debarking I walked down a sand-lined sidewalk alongside airborne seagulls on one side and the massive Fantasy Cruise Ship on the other side.
After the short stroll I came across an island map of Castaway Cay.
Next up…the island’s tram.
Sure, I could have walked to Serenity Bay, the adult-only beach that I had my heart set on. I heard it was only a half-hour walk, but I opted for the easy route and along the way I spotted this famous guy…
Next up was the Castaway Family Beach. I wanted to take a peek so I hopped off the tram to check it out. Kids were zooming through the sand and splashing through the water. You can pick up beach rentals like inner tubes or snorkels, masks and fins and Flippers and Floats.
And there is plenty of souvenir shopping. If you want Castaway Cay memorabilia you can only purchase it on the island.
After another hop on the tram I finally arrived at Serenity Bay…the 18 and over beach.
This was my goal for the day. To lie on the beach and do nothing. Well, maybe read. This beach was very quiet. Servers were delivering tropical drinks by the tray-full and the vibe was 100% relaxation.
Before I knew it my skin was turning pink – despite my sunscreen application – so I grabbed something to eat at the Serenity Beach grill then I was on my way back to the ship.
Did you enjoy the photos of Castaway Cay? It’s one way to experience a heavenly day and as pretty as it looks!

Great photos and article! Makes me want to go there now since it’s about 6 degrees. Thanks for sharing the fun!
In Denver it was 5 degrees during my morning commute today. While reading this, I took a warm mini vacation to sun and sand. Serenity Bay sounds like a dream come true kind of place. I think even with my cold nose I’ll keep day-dreaming of such a delightful place. Thanks for the warm-up.
Looks like a great time…this Disney nut hopes to make it to Castaway Cay in 2013!
It truly looks heavenly, a great place especially for the kids…
I’ve never been on a Disney cruise but it is quickly jumping up on my list of things to do.
2013 is quickly also becoming my goal of being “the year of travelling”
