The Most Romantic Places in Colorado

In the 2015 Expedia Romance Study, 1,000 surveyed Americans said beach vacations are the dreamiest romantic getaways. Indeed, I don’t deny that swaying palm trees, salty air, crashing waves and a couple of frothy cocktails (or six) set the scene for intimacy.

But since I live in landlocked Colorado, and typically get to a beach destination with my husband just a couple of times a year, I tend to seek more convenient romantic spots in my own home state–from Colorado’s most luxurious hotels to secluded camping spots.

Here are my top picks for destinations that inspire romance in Colorado:

The majestic Broadmoor in Colorado Springs dates back to 1918.

Majestic and picturesque, The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs dates back to 1918.

The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs

The Broadmoor is one of my all-time favorite resort hotels in Colorado for several reasons: it’s steeped in history, the customer service is some of the best I’ve received anywhere in the world, the country-club-like grounds are gorgeous, and the amenities and restaurants are excellent.

I’ve actually only stayed at The Broadmoor with my children in tow, but it’s super easy for parents to get alone time here, as the upscale hotel offers Bee Bunch camp during peak vacation times, and can help you hire an in-room babysitter other times (or if you want individual care).

I tell you, a multi-course meal at The Broadmoor’s ultra-fancy, five-star, five-diamond Penrose Room–with its swanky live music and inviting dance floor–will make you fall in love with your significant other all over again. It’s practically guaranteed.

The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch in Beaver Creek

After just one night at The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch in Beaver Creek, I wanted to move in. I believe it’s Colorado’s most luxurious mountain property.

Its lodge decor absolutely gorgeous; we experienced only excellent customer service during our short stay; and it’s super convenient to the ski slopes–the chair lift is a stone’s throw from the lobby.

As far as a romantic agenda goes at The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch, I suggest a morning snowshoe hike on the easily accessible trails; an afternoon soak in the co-ed, dimly lit grotto in the sublime spa; a table for two at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago; and finally a late-evening cuddle under a blanket in front of a fireplace in the outdoor, adult’s only Bachelor’s Lounge.

Conundrum Hot Springs

I love that Expedia survey respondents ranked “outdoor adventure” second on the list of dream romantic getaways.

I am a huge fan of being active outside while on vacation with my husband; in particular we tend to look for moderate to strenuous hikes whenever we travel.

I count our backpacking trip to Conundrum Hot Springs near Aspen among the sexist spots we’ve rolled out sleeping bags, namely because of the toasty, natural, mineral soaking pools located at the end of the 8.5-mile backcountry trek (what a reward!); tent sites with plenty of privacy are located within walking distance to the pools; the towering pines, jagged mountain peaks and wide-open meadows in the surrounding wilderness are absolutely stunning; you can dream under a trillion stars in the ink-black evening sky; and the hot springs are decidedly clothing optional. (Ahem.)

  1. I live in Colorado Springs and have been to the Broadmoor. I agree…it is absolutely luxurious and the staff is amazing. Haven’t been to the other two but putting them on my list! Thanks!

  2. We’re Broadmoor-bound for Valentine’s Day/ our anniversary and I can’t think of a more romantic place! I’m bookmarking Conundrum Hot Springs…sounds awesome.

  3. Stop making me want to go to Colorado, I have enough on my plate already.

  4. Now that you mention it, one of our most romantic vacations was a 5 day hike on the Milford Track on the South Island of New Zealand. Although we were with a group of 40 guided walkers/hikers, the trail could only be hiked in one direction, so we were spread out along the trail, hiking at our own paces. Often, it was just my husband and me, seemingly alone in the primordial wilderness, helping each other over streams or resting on a rock surrounded by Mother Nature’s magnificence. It’s one of our fondest shared memories.

  5. The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs seems to be a fantastic place to rest there, so fancy ! But I really like the picture of the Ritz in Beaver Creek… So, I put them in my list !
