We just got back from 2 weeks in Alaska - the first week we did our own land tour - a few days in Talkeetna, a couple of days in Denali National Park, a couple of days in Seward. Then we boarded the Radiance of the Seas for a week-long trip from Seward to Vancouver with a visit to the Hubbard Glacier and stops at Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), and Ketchikan. What a great trip! We did and/or saw something amazing/spectacular every day! I would love to take a trip on a smaller ship like the one you describe if we ever get to Alaska again!

It seems like everyone is talking about the Alaska cruises these days. I just interviewed someone yesterday who got back from the Coral Princess doing a land and sea cruise, starting in Fairbanks. If I don't make it this year, reading this, I'm sold on next.

I love this post! I used to work at Princess Cruises and my family, about 30 of us, maybe more got to take an Alaskan cruise. It was fabulous. We went with Princess Cruises and sailed from Whittier to Vancouver. At first I thought "man I want to go to the Bahamas, get a tan!" But after that trip, I am so glad I went. There is nothing like it! Love you blog and will definitely keep coming back! My famiyl travels a lot!

Dave, the accommodations are very, very nice. There are even a couple of single rooms, so solo travelers don't have to find a roomie or pay for double occupancy. The ship is, obviously, a lot smaller than a mega cruise liner, but there's actually more space per passenger on this one. We got off the boat every day to kayak or hike or explore a town, but someone who is more of a "landlubber" would do better with a land tour. My cowriter TwinCitiesGal did a land-slash-cruise in Alaska. If you search for her posts, you'll see how much she really enjoyed seeing Alaska this way.

Not much a cruise guy myself, but I'm certainly an Alaska guy. This recap nearly sells me on the idea of doing a trip like this. How comparable are the accommodations to what you'll find on a mega cruise liner? Since I'm more a land lover, perhaps the land tour would suit my fancy better...but your description of the adventure sure makes it appealing. Great stuff, Jen!
