If you want to go snow tubing in a T-shirt and shorts, don your sunglasses and sneakers, head to Keystone, Colorado, and take the gondola to Adventure Point for a super fun ride down the 800-foot tubing hill — in the summer! My family and I are huge fans of Keystone Resort for its kid-friendly offerings — including tubing in the winter — but this summer tubing hill really exceeded our expectations.
With the epic snowfall Colorado enjoyed this winter, the tubing hill at Keystone is the best its been in the three years it’s open for summer tubing. In fact, even though the past couple years the tubing hill has closed July 11, Adventure Point Manager Chris Sorensen says there’s likely enough snow to keep the tubing hill open this year through July and perhaps even the first week of August: “Until we melt.” Chris says that he and his crew have been moving snow and grooming the hill ever since the mountain’s chairlifts closed April 10 to skiers and snowboarders.
For best tubing conditions, reserve the earliest offered time slot – 10 a.m. – before the sun rises in the sky and starts turning the top layer of the snow to slush. While tubing in the warm Colorado sun is heavenly, it’s also beneficial to tubing enthusiasts when clouds pass through. In the shade, some of that melty snow will turn to ice and make the run even faster. Be prepared to get your feet wet and breathe heavily; it take some effort to walk from the top of the conveyor belt to the top of the tubing hill, especially at 12,000 feet!
Make reservations at Adventure Point by calling 800-354-4386. The cost is $29 for an hour, and that price includes the ride up the gondola. The hill is open seven days a week, with reservations made from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the hour and half hour. If the sun is out, you will be okay in shorts and a T-shirt, but I’d also bring along a fleece or sweatshirt, and I’d wear closed-toe shoes.
Truly, this is one the most fun adventures my family has enjoyed this summer! Want proof? Check out this video, where you’ll see my son spun and flung down the hill by one of the energetic Adventure Point staffers. You’ll hear him whoop it up as he bumps and flies down one of the two chutes.
I highly recommend summer snow tubing for any Colorado families who like to have a good time in the outdoors. If you have visiting houseguests from out of state, I think this makes a “This is why our state kicks butt” mountain activity to introduce to them.
Thanks Keystone Resort for hosting my family and our visiting friends at Adventure Point tubing. The Florida folks made memories that will last a lifetime, and for that I’m so grateful!

Nice post, thnaks .
This looks like a great way to spend an afternoon… Assuming that you don’t fall out of course! i think that would be miserable!
More great summer tubing can be had at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area in Florence, Oregon. Sandboarding is also a popular activity.
What’s not to love about wearing shorts and playing in the snow! A great post
We just watched the video! My husband just asked me last night if snow tubing in summer was for real. Thank you for listing the price and giving an honest review.
