What a wonderful place for a children's (or adult's) party! Both the birthday child & his guests have a ball as do the parents. Everything is handled by the superb staff in an atmosphere of fun. Recommend it highly.

If your child(ren) are into Magic, I would recommend Fantasma Magic http://www.fantasmamagic.com/ at 421 7th Ave. 2nd Fl. (Entrance on 33rd St. between 6th & 7th Aves) is a place of magic. Their magic shows for children are extremely entertaining for children and parents. And no matter how closely you watch the magician you come out in awe. We've enjoyed every show we've seen. The selection of magic related items in the store is quite extensive - including some science magic, and for all budget levels.
They have a birthday room you enter through a secret vault that one can rent for birthday parties.

I can't go to NYC without going to the Met, so when my kids were younger I read "The Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankwieler" by E.L. Konigsburg to them and made note of the various items that would show up in the museum. There isn't an exact correlation between the book and the collection, but enough with a bit of imagination, it makes for a fun introduction to the museum. Then we went to the cafe and I let them have whatever they wanted for a snack.

What a wonderful resource! I had never heard of some of these - the transportation museum sounds perfect for my nephew. I have just discovered this blog as I was voting on the Bloggies (congratulations on the nomination!!! I voted for you ladies, BTW), and I am *loving* it.

New York City resident. I recommend the Police Museum (100 Old Slip), the Queens Hall of Science and the Liberty Science Center in NJ (technically not museums, I guess).
