Laguna Beach is a popular vacation spot and weekend getaway destination for Southern Californians; my family and I have also used it as a pitstop en route to San Diego from our home in Los Angeles. The wide sandy beaches and the artsy, foodie town truly combine to make Laguna Beach one of the prettiest coastal towns in Southern California. The Ranch at Laguna Beach offers something different than the resorts right on the beach; a quieter, shady respite from the noise and bright constant sun of those resorts helps make The Ranch at Laguna Beach family getaway exactly what my daughter and I needed after a long and busy summer.
Everyone, from little kids to golf-and-massage loving seniors, can find plenty to do to occupy their time here: The Ranch at Laguna Beach family getaway easily can be multigenerational. My own getaway, with one of my teenage daughters, was perfectly relaxing and, as she’d say, “chill.” She also said that for the three days we spent at The Ranch at Laguna Beach, her “snap story was fire.” I’m pretty sure that translates into normal language as meaning that The Ranch is photogenic and that other teenagers admired her proclivity towards taking photos of it.
Now, The Ranch at Laguna Beach has been undergoing a massive renovation, and when we stayed there, it had not yet been completed. It’s due to be done before winter (2016). During our stay, the spa was just beginning to be built; the concrete had been poured and the footprints of the rooms, locker areas and front reception area were obvious, but that was it. The Sycamore Spa will have massages, facials and treatments as typically seen in high end resort spas. However, I obviously can’t judge it yet!
Some activities for a few days during The Ranch at Laguna Beach family getaway include:
Junior Rangers Kids Camp — the Junior Rangers program, for children ages 5 to 12, engages the “Junior Rangers” with nature. The Ranch at Laguna Beach is so sprawling (two and a half acres) that there’s plenty of ground to cover. Junior Rangers Kids Camp activities include guided programs with a focus on local wildlife, sustainability, and an appreciation of nature.
Whale and Dolphin “Safari” — The annual blue whale migration means that hundreds of blue whales travel up and down the California coast. My family and I have loved Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Watching Safari in the past, and it was a pleasure to see that his company is the one most highly recommended by the concierge at The Ranch at Laguna Beach, The staff is happy to arrange this two and a half hour trip for guests.
Other off-resort activities that guests of The Ranch at Laguna beach should strongly consider experiencing include surf lessons, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, skim boarding, deep-sea fishing, and tidal pool exploring, The staff easily and amenably can arrange for all.
On the property, there is a sand volleyball course, Boccee ball, frisbee (and for kids, frisbee golf, if pre-arranged) guided hiking, bird-watching, and weekly stargazing with a telescope. There is also poolside yoga and garden tours, which need to be pre-arranged as well.
Ben Brown’s Club — Golf here is 9-hole course with elevation changes on every fairway, with dramatic vistas and views that continue the theme of connecting with nature in Laguna Beach. There’s a Junior Golf Camp, a Pro Shop, online tee time booking, and more.
97 guest rooms, suites, and cottages ensure that The Ranch at Laguna Beach will always be a more intimate getaway than the large resorts on the beach, such as the nearly Montage, and the Ritz-Carlton. My daughter and I absolutely loved coming back after long days out, to our gorgeous duplex. It was quiet and relaxing, the bedding was extremely comfortable, and we felt as pampered as possible considering the property was still being renovated. We would definitely enjoy a return visit when it has its official reopening; The Ranch at Laguna Beach family getaway was a success.
