Earlier this month, I had a ball talking about one of my favorite places in the world — my own backyard — with Chris Christensen, producer of the Amateur Traveler travel podcast. In Episode 264 – Travel to Aspen, Colorado I highlight some of my favorite things to do, activities to enjoy, hotels to check out and places to eat in the pretty mountain resort town. While I haven’t lived in Aspen proper in over a decade, I now make my home with my family just 30 minutes down the road; I love introducing visitors to my glorious mountain playground, where I ski, snowshoe and snowmobile in the winter and hike, bike and kayak in the summer.
Here are just a few topics I wax poetic about (okay, sometimes babble and stumble over my words) in the podcast:
Activities off the ski slopes: You truly do not have to be a skier to visit Aspen in the wintertime. If you’re the active type, but don’t feel like strapping two sticks on your feet and sailing down the mountain, you can hike up a ski area, ice skate under twinkling lights in the middle of town, or embark on a dogsledding adventure. Of course, there’s always spas, shopping and really good food…
Viceroy Snowmass: I love this luxury slopeside hotel at the ski area that’s just a 10-minute drive from downtown Aspen.
Summer festivals galore: From the Aspen Music Festival and Aspen Writers’ Foundation’s Summer Words to Food & Wine and the Snowmass Balloon Festival, you’ll find back-to-back special events from mid June through September.
