I believe tickets are only a dollar apiece, and it's a delightful ride. Also, a walk through the conservatory is interesting, even if the kids don't have a lot of patience for it. But yes, the doors are awkward with a stroller. I'm glad you're finding Minnesotans to be friendly and helpful! Amy, the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, WI, is also very nice and is free.
