Healthy Road Trip Snacks

Today “healthy eating” means different things to different people. Personally, I lean towards whole foods (aka paleo) as much as possible. Our kitchen is bursting with fresh fruits and veggies as is our cooler on road trips. Sometimes it is hard to find fresh foods on the road, such as our last road trip, but lucky for us today there are plenty of organic prepackaged snacks to choose from. I avoid feeding my family “junk”, meaning GMO, chemical-filled food-like-products created in a factory. Oftentimes, these foods have very little deriving from nature. When the kids do eat such items I notice a difference in their moods, sleep patterns, and attention spans. These behaviors solidify my decision to feed the kids as healthy as possible even if it costs a little more.

This summer my family tried some new healthy road trip snacks and they were delicious and easy to pack. In fact, I found they were arguing over them. When kids are fighting over something healthy then the brand has done their job well. Here are some of the products we tried:

Shine Organics

Shine Organics. If you’ve had an infant in recent years you know that the class baby food jar has competition. It’s called the convenient squeeze pouch. No more broken glass on the kitchen floor and much easier toting on outings. What you may not know is there are adult snacks that are also packaged similarly and they are tasty! The brand I’m talking about is called Shine Organics and the products come in a variety of fruits, veggies and micronutrients. The unique flavor combinations are tasty but what I really is that the combinations are for different times of the day.

Purify: Apple, Guava, Kale, Strawberry, Parsley and Chia

Elevate: Banana, Carrot, Mango, Orange, Wheatgrass, Turmeric, Chia

Revive: Pear, Celery, Coconut, Lime, Green Tea, Chia

Calm: Banana, Pumpkin, Coconut, Blackberry, Vanilla, Passion Flower, Chia

These are a great choice for anyone looking for a quick snack anytime, anywhere including runners looking for a little burst of energy.

Healthy Road Trip Snacks

ginnybakes. My family is dealing with a possible gluten sensitivity so we’ve been exploring different snack options and ginnyBakes (GB) cookies are a tasty option that doesn’t sacrifice flavor. They are sooo good! You will also find bars and bake mixes from ginnyBakes. The best part, everything is organic, gluten-free, non-GMO and kosher. The ginnyminis are especially ideal for road trip snacks. These individually portioned treats come in chocolate chip love, butter crisp love and chocolate chip oatmeal bliss. I’ve tried them all and think the butter crisp love if my favorite while the rest of the family votes the other two as their favorites (my chocolate lovers shining through).

Navitas Naturals. The other day I was excited when I saw this brand at Target. Navitas Naturals has three new varieties of toasted Coconut Chips: Caramel, Cacao and Chili Lime. I have yet to try the Caramel but I have tasted the other two and they are delicious. The Cacao will fulfill any chocolate craving while the Chili Lime I could snack any day. These are organic, gluten-free, and non-GMO. While these are ideal for road trips, you can also top your oatmeal,  yogurt, salad, or throw a bit in your trail mix. Another favorite of mine is Dark Cacao Almonds again, organic, gluten-free, and GMO free. In my opinion…addictive.

Thank you to these brands for the samples for review purposes.
